The bodhisattva Mahasthamaprata is one of the three Pure Land Sages, the others being
Buddha Amitabha and the Avalokitesvara. One of the three key bodhisattvas in Pure
Land Buddhism, recognizable by the water jar (jeweled pitcher) adorning her crown.
Usually represented in East Asian iconography as a female bodhisattva bearing a lotus
bud to escort the elect to the Pure Land.
